Creators of the password manager said users can now use Touch ID, Windows Hello, and some Linux biometrics systems using the 1Password desktop app. 1Password said in its blog post announcing the updates that biometric support was its number one requested feature. The Verge noted that while biometric support has been available for Safari users, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge users did not have these biometric capabilities until now. Other features 1Password introduced include Dark Mode and an easier way to create, save, and update logins within your browser. “When the save window appears, you can instantly see everything that will be added to the new item. You can even adjust the contents and add tags to help you stay organized,” 1Password wrote in its blog post. “In addition, our recently updated password generator will suggest passwords that fit the requirements of the website you’re on so you don’t have to worry about the details if you don’t want to.” Also, Master Password has been renamed to “password.” 1Password enables you to sync your different passwords for different sites across all of your devices and allows you to automatically fill out passwords in your browser through its browser extensions. While password habits are a hot topic these days, many experts say we are increasingly moving into a passwordless world that relies more on biometric scanning like Apple’s Face ID or Touch ID. Even so, 1Password recommends that everyone creates a unique password for each website they go to since the more random and unique your password is, the stronger it is against potential hackers.
