As Engadget points out, 5G only used to be an option for Cricket’s more expensive plans, but now it’s available for all of them. Still, there is a chance that 5G might not be available in your area or on your model of phone, in which case you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of it. The 8Mbps speed limit is still in place for the basic Unlimited plan, though, and the two cheapest plans are still subject to data caps. Depending on what you choose, you simply could run out of your allotted data (either 2GB or 10GB) faster, and have your speeds throttled to 128Kbps. Both of the unlimited options don’t have these restrictions, but they also cost more per month. You can switch over to one of Cricket’s plans using your current phone (which will require unlocking it), or you can roll the purchase of a new one into your bill. And if you’re getting the $60 Unlimited plan with Mobile Hotspot, some phone models won’t cost you anything. If you want to take advantage of 5G, though. you’ll want to make sure the phone supports it first. 5G is available now on all Cricket wireless phone plans, which run between $30 and $60 per month for an individual, up to $160 per month for five lines.
