Reddit was the first to take note of the changes to Apple’s support page for the AirPods repair program, which recently has been updated to offer three years of support for AirPods suffering from crackling problems.  According to the updated support page, units affected by the issue were manufactured before October 2020 and may exhibit one of a few different issues. Problems include crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise, or talking on the phone, and Active Noise Cancellation occasionally acting up, causing loss of bass or an increase in the amount of background noise being heard. The program initially was introduced a year after the release of the AirPods Pro, around the same time the warranty on AirPods Pro purchased at launch would expire. The new program now extends the coverage to up to three years after the original purchase date, which means users who bought their AirPods Pro at launch are covered until 2022. If you’re experiencing any of the above issues with your AirPods Pro, you now have a little more time to get the issue resolved without having to pay anything out of pocket.
