According to The Verge, Facebook has announced that its region-limited test of Reels is being extended to some folks in the US. Facebook’s reasoning is that users spend almost half their time on the app watching video content, telling The Verge that Reels is growing quickly. Not everyone is being included, however, so you might not see Reels pop up in your feed for some time yet. If you are part of this expanded test, Reels should appear on the Facebook app in your News Feed and in Groups. If you’re able and you want to make your own Reels, you either can record straight from the app or import a video from your Camera Roll. If you do have access to this test, you’ll also be able to cross-post from Instagram to your Facebook account. Facebook wants to incentivize the use of Reels by offering special programs and funding to creators who use the new short-form video feature. Its plan is to pony up $1 billion to go to both Instagram and Facebook creators from now through 2022. At this point, though, only time will tell whether or not Reels can become the TikTok competitor Facebook wants it to be. The US extension of Facebook’s Reels test already has begun rolling out, however, it won’t be available for everyone. Also note that Reels only will appear in the Facebook app, so you’ll want to check through your mobile device, rather than your computer’s web browser.
