Feature-wise, the Essential plan looks similar to the current Limited Commercials plan. Both include limited commercial interruptions, on-demand streaming for thousands of TV shows and movies, access to live NFL games on CBS, and CBSN 24 hour news. However, as Engadget points out, Essential will exclude local CBS broadcast channels. According to the Paramount+ site, Limited Commercials plan users will be able to hang onto their subscriptions so long as they don’t change plans or unsubscribe. Similarly, anyone who is more interested in the current plan still has the option of signing up before the switch on June 7. However, Limited Commercials users who want to switch to Essential can easily do so—just be aware that there’s no switching back. Whether or not the omission of local CBS streaming is s deal-breaker will depend on the user, but it’s a detail worth knowing before signing up or switching over. The current Limited Commercials Plan costs $5.99 per month ($59.99 per year), while Essential will cost a bit less at $4.99 per month ($49.99 per year). Those who prefer not to see any commercials also can choose the Commercial Free plan at $9.99 per month ($99.99 per year).
