Peloton announced the feature, known as Lanebreak, on Monday, according to The Verge. Only subscribers and bike owners will be able to access the game, which reportedly is debuting later this year.  The game lets you earn points by staying in your lane, increasing your energy output, and reaching your goal in time. The Verge reports that a rider pedals to an on-screen wheel to reach the goals within the game. You’ll be able to customize the game with your difficulty level, the music, and the duration of the track.  The Verge didn’t mention if you’d be able to play the game against other riders or your friends, but since Peloton’s primary model is community-based, it’s not far-fetched to say that could also be a feature of Lanebreak when it finally rolls out.  Lanebreak would be an option alongside the typical Peloton instructor-led classes and scenic rides, so riders would have more ways to experience a ride.  There are already game-based fitness workouts out there, such as the Nintendo Ring Fit and VR devices like the Oculus Quest that combine fitness with a competitive edge.  While this is Peloton’s first foray into exploring gaming, the company isn’t the only one eyeing an entrance into the gaming industry. Back in May, reports surfaced about Netflix exploring a subscription-based gaming service that would be similar to Apple Arcade. However, experts say that platforms like Netflix have a lot to iron out before they can become widely successful in the gaming industry.
