On the other hand, apps that utilize an IR transmitter require a phone with the correct hardware and control your Apple TV by sending out signals just as a typical remote would. As of recent, phones that include built-in IR transmitters (also known as IR blasters) include the LG G5, Honor 8, Xiaomi Mi 5, and Huawei Mate 20. Samsung’s Android phones have excluded the IR transmitter since the Galaxy S7.
