According to a blog post, the update affects Xbox One Controllers that have Bluetooth support, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and Xbox Adaptive Controllers. The main new feature is Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) which will deliver controller inputs more efficiently to make gameplay more responsive. This is a feature that was exclusive to the Xbox Series X and is now making its way to the older controllers. The update also includes a Bluetooth Low Energy feature which provides a similar communication range compared to the standard, but at with reduced power consumption. This feature also allows players to play wirelessly on Windows 10 PCs, iOS 15+, and Android devices. With Bluetooth Low Energy, the updated controllers will remember two host devices which allow gamers to quickly switch between them simply by double tapping the pair button. The firmware update is exclusive to players on the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead tiers of the Xbox Insider Program. It’s a program that gives users a chance to try out new features ahead of everyone else. The blog post did say the feature will go out to the lower tiers in the coming weeks. Currently, there are five tiers in total. Microsoft has posted instructions on how to join the Xbox Insider Program, and it involves downloading the Xbox Insider bundle. However, a direct invite from Microsoft is required to join the upper Alpha tiers.
