Google’s latest update for the Chromebook Camera app includes a couple of new features to go along with QR code scanning, camera timers, and so on. Now you can also adjust your Chromebook’s camera angle and crop (to save for later use), as well as use it to scan documents. According to Google, you’ll be able to scan documents and save them as a JPEG or PDF file using either the front or rear-facing camera on your Chromebook. Once in Scan Mode (also used for QR codes), you just have to hold the document up to the appropriate camera. The app will automatically detect the edges of your document, then complete the scan when you take a photo. If you’re using an external camera, you can also now use the Pan-Tilt-Zoom feature to preemptively set up your video angles, zoom, and cropping. The app will recognize your settings and won’t reset anything or switch to defaults even if you switch from a video call to recording a video. The new Chromebook Camera update is live now. More features, such as the ability to make GIFs by recording up to five seconds of video, are planned to roll out in early 2022.
